FAQS
What will happen during the session?
This is dependent on their age and the presenting issue. Before I meet the client, I will find out what their interests are and anything else they enjoy. This is a great way to build rapport and build a picture of their world. Sometimes it can take a few sessions to achieve this, especially if the child/teen is reluctant to be involved. The client leads the sessions and no two sessions are the same but I aim to make the sessions playful and relaxed.
How many sessions do you recommend?
Everyone is unique but I would always recommend 4-6 sessions to start. My aim is to empower your child so that they leave with their own “tool box”.
Do I stay with my child or teenager?
Generally parents will have spoken to me on the phone before the session and join me at the end of the session with the child. I believe children and teens tend to open up more without a parent/carer present but you might not feel comfortable with this at the start so we can discuss this in the introductory session.
Do you see parents for their own wellbeing, even if they are not seeking therapy for their child?
Yes I have had great success helping parents navigate family life. Being a parent can be a big change, and it's not always easy to adjust. I'm here to help and support parents /carers through some of the challenges they may face.
Do you offer support to parents who have a particularly challenging child or teenager?
Yes, I find that it's incredibly beneficial to the family when I have sessions with the child/teeneager and separate sessions with the parent or carer to help support and help them. Each family situation is unique and I will always recommend what works best on an individual basis
How long is each session?
Children's sessions are 45 minutes, 16+/adults are 50 minutes.
